Formed in 2004, the label Fundudzi draws its name from the most sacred lake of the vhaVenda tribe who believe you can “hear their ancestors drumming beneath its waters at night”.

Created by fashion entrepreneur Craig Jacobs, the label is grounded by simple dictum: Clothing with a conscience.
July 2007 saw the label introduce its first couture collection in Paris, thanks to an initiative organized by SA Tourism and the Motsepe Family Foundation. Called C’est Couture C’est Possible, it was convened and conceptualized by Gavin Rajah and saw the label commended for its “sober feminine style” and “pure elegance” by influential French press.
