African Fashion International Announces New Creative Director, Deon Redman
African Fashion International (AFI), the force behind some of the leading fashion weeks in Africa, are very excited to announce the appointment of Deon Redman as in-house Creative Director.
South African born Deon Redman has been actively involved in the fashion industry for over 12 years. Most recently based between New York and London, he has produced seasonal Fashion Week designer shows in all four international capitals.
Related work has included fashion retail events, launches and award shows. Clients have included Julien Macdonald, Jonathan Saunders, Viktor and Rolf, Diesel, Gucci, Prada, and Yves Saint Laurent.
AFI currently owns and manages most of the continent’s leading fashion weeks including Cape Town Fashion Week Spring/Summer, Audi Joburg Fashion Week Autumn/Winter, Joburg Fashion Week Spring/Summer, sponsored by the City of Joburg and MTN Durban Fashion Week (which is also 50% co-owned by VShe Promotions).
AFI fashion week properties provide world-class platforms for South African designers to market their labels to international and national media, buyers, private clients and the public consumer. AFI also engages in development programmes for fashion designers in Africa, including international exposure in European cities such as Paris and Moscow. AFI was also responsible (together with WEF) for placing fashion on the agenda at the recent World Economic Forum in Cape Town.
Says Chief Operations Officer, Hannelize Robinson: “AFI has a proud history of producing world-class fashion platforms and has set benchmarks in terms of production standards and marketing deliverables. The introduction of Deon as Creative Director adds further value to AFI’s value proposition by also striving for excellence in creative direction. After an extensive industry search, we take great pleasure in welcoming Deon to the AFI team.”
“Deon will be responsible for bringing his vast experience gained after many years in the fashion industry to bear via a hands-on approach in advising AFI in key creative areas. His input will also serve to galvanize our existing key production aspects associated with world-class production”.
Deon will work closely with fashion designers, existing producers and the broader AFI team to ensure that AFI are continually delivering on the key elements required for successful delivery
Says Deon: “I am looking forward to joining the AFI team. I am a passionate believer in the strength of the fashion industry, an industry that needs the support of companies such as AFI and their associated initiatives. My involvement will result in further enhancement of the fashion week offering and indeed the time in between fashion weeks”.
This is not the first time Deon has worked with AFI, having directed the inaugural preview day of Audi Joburg Fashion Week at Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Soweto. A pioneering move, bringing a world class fashion event to the township, a move close to the heart of AFI Chairperson, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, who is committed to returning fashion week to Soweto every year.
